April 16: Belgorod - Voronezh (RUS)

We are made of steel. The pouring rain does not hurt us a bit. The freezing cold feels pleasant and the packs of snow next to the road do not impress us the slightest. We laugh at the weather-gods, in fact we challenge them to throw whatever they have at us. With this kind of pep-talk we motivate ourselves to keep on riding, knowing that the weather forecast for the next couple of days remains the same ; rain, melting snow and temperatures just above freezing point. Driving in these conditions is not for sissies and separates the real men from the boys.

Despite the minor weather set-back we are enjoying every minute of our trip. The Yamaha's are handling like a dream. Very comfortable suspension, light steering and powerful engine. The brakes react sharp and provide a real sense of safety.
With the road in bad to very bad shape, the tires provided by Metzler are ideal for this type of riding.

First off-road. To much confidence can lead to funny situations. By showing off his (underdeveloped) skill, Carl managed to get himself stuck in the rich clay grounds of the Russian outdoors. With a bike 15kilo heavier from all the dirt it was time for some TLC.

In Voronezh we met a fellow biker called Alexander. He showed us some Russian hospitality by inviting us in his home, cooking for us, getting us drunk and letting us stay overnight in one of his rooms. It is nice to lodge with the locals to get a feeling how the people in Russia live and work. Thanks Alexander!

After a short visit to a party of one of the MC in Voronezh we went to bed for a good night rest for the long trip ahead
